Not just Americans, either. My best friend in grade 9 used to talk to me about how her father, who was from Pakistan, lost his job right after September 11 (2001) and was still unemployed in 2003 because nobody would hire him (keeping in mind that the recession hadn’t happened yet and it was still unusual in Canada for a 50 year old man to be suddenly laid off). This is so, so important.
